Hi, I’m Dawn. Pleased to meet you.
I am a freelance journalist, digital marketer and public relations consultant, specialising in the arts. My work has appeared in publications such as Mslexia, Living, Scottish Field, The People’s Friend, My Weekly, MADE, Platinum and the Daily Record. I also write regularly for the Scots Magazine regularly as their Book Correspondent.
I hold a BA in Corporate Communications and have worked within a number of organisations including a leading charity, an award winning media agency and a government body. Since going freelance in 2012, I have developed a specialism for working with creatives and creative organisations. To date, my clients have included bestselling authors, art galleries and installations, much loved literary festivals, such as Bloody Scotland and Islay Book Festival and the award winning design museum, V&A Dundee.
I’m also a creative writer myself, writing gothic fiction for adults and young adults.
Wearing these three different hats has given me a very unique skill set. I know what makes a good story - but I also relate to the reluctance that art workers and organisations can feel when it comes to promoting themselves.
That’s why I also teach publicity and marketing courses directly to creatives Through my Business of Being an Author and Be Your Own Publicist courses and one-to-one consultancy sessions.
